History
The Waterville Poets Club and the Dover-Foxcroft Poetry Circle joined in 1936 to form the Poetry Fellowship of Maine. In 1993, the name was changed to Maine Poets Society to reflect the organization’s changing emphasis on a statewide network of writers sharing their work.
Affiliation
The society is affiliated with the National Federation of State Poetry Societies (NFSPS). Maine Poets Society membership fee includes NFSPS membership and allows our members the opportunity to participate in a variety of contests and events each year. Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance
MWPA brings together Maine writers, editors, publishers and literary professionals to sharpen their craft, create community, celebrate great writing and lift the state’s literary culture. I have been happy to be a member of MWPA and an attendee of many of their classes and workshops for more years than I can actually remember, but probably at least fifteen.
QI stands for Quite Interesting. It was founded in 2000 on the principle of curiosity, and the belief that everything is interesting if you look at it the right way. Now they are a multimedia entertainment and education company with an award-winning flagship BBC TV panel show.
You can find many clips and even complete episodes on YouTube, but you need to search for QI + episodes, or you will find a vast rabbit warren of videos about Chinese energy (although you can also wander down that hole if you choose, of course).
My connection to QI was as a research contributor (not as high-flown as an elf, but maybe a gnome) and the moderator of the former QI talk forum, where you once found people with a sense of humour and the ability to discuss topics both hot and inconsequential without descending into flame wars.
Since the QI talk forums have now closed down, you can find many of those people on a new forum called Qexiles so please feel free to come and join us.
